The "Peoples Choice" Guitar story
Each year IRRMA and Gretsch Guitars sponsor the “Art Guitars in Schools Contest” among Iowa High School Art Departments to promote artistic expression and the history of Rock ‘n Roll in the state of Iowa.Lenox, Iowa High School was selected as a 2006 participant, and was sponsored by the Thunderbirds. Students are responsible for the artistic design created and completed on the guitars with the direction from IRRMA that their design should include the IRRMA logo, promote the history of Rock ‘n Roll in Iowa and honor one of the bands in the IRRMA Hall of Fame.The Lenox students completed their tooled copper design in the Spring of 2006, and their guitar was sent to the IRRMA Museum. The guitars were voted on all summer by visitors to the Museum for the "People’s Choice Award". The Lenox guitar won by a wide margin! This winning guitar is being displayed in the Museum throughout 2007.
