Iowa Rock'n Roll Music Association (IRRMA) Hall of Fame Induction - 2006
The Award Ceremony
Introduction
The Thunderbirds were inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association (IRRMA) Hall of Fame on September 3rd (Labor Day weekend) 2006.
The state of Iowa has a long history of contributions to the world of Rock ‘n Roll. It all began in the late 1950s when the genre was in its infancy. As teenagers embraced “their music,” forward-thinking adults recognized the developing trend and helped pioneer that which was not to be denied. Radio stations began playing the new music, the grand ballrooms and road houses that dotted the state began staging teen hops and nearly every town in the state boasted at least one Rock ‘n Roll band.
The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association (IRRMA) was created in 1997 to retain and honor the legacy of Iowa Rock ‘n Roll and preserve its history. Each Labor Day weekend it honors the bands, musicians, radio stations, ballrooms, music stores and individuals who have made significant contributions to Rock ‘n Roll by inducting them in to its Hall of Fame.
